- Students may not enter class late or leave early without the instructor’s permission.
Students arriving unexpectedly late to class must ask for the instructor’s permission
to enter the dance room.
- Students arriving more than 10 minutes late for class may be asked not to participate.
- If less than 3 students show up for a class, the instructor may shorten the lesson
due to the extra amount of work required of each student.
- Please do not interrupt a class in progress. If a parent needs to speak with a student,
a message can be relayed through the office.
- No food, drink, or gum is allowed in the dance room. Water is allowed in a closed
container.
- Cell phones are allowed in the dance room during emergencies only and solely by permission
of the instructor.
- Coats, street shoes, and other personal belongings including food or drinks should
be kept in the lobby or dressing room. Lockers are available for personal items or
valuables. Locks are the responsibility of the student.
- Students, parents, and visitors are expected to behave in a quiet, courteous, and
orderly manner in the lobby.
- Students are to remain inside the building while waiting to be picked up after class.
- No smoking is allowed on the premises.
- Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. EMDC reserves the right to dismiss,
suspend, or expel from the studio any person who is disruptive or violates studio
policies.
As a general rule, EMDC is closed when the Moriarty Edgewood School District is closed.
If the weather is inclement, please call the studio at 281-6141 approximately one
hour prior to class time. There will be an announcement on the outgoing message if
classes are cancelled.
All classes missed due to absences, studio cancellations, or inclement weather must
be made up by attending an alternate class. There are no refunds for missed classes.
If a student misses more than three classes in a row, he or she is subject to removal
from that class.
- Class size is generally limited to 12 students.
- Classes with low enrollment are subject to cancellation.
- Listed class ages are references only. Exceptions are per the director and instructor’s
approval.


- Ballet A or B—Girls are to wear a solid color leotard with pink or black tights;
ballet skirt or alignment belt allowed; ballet-specific warm-ups may be worn during
barre only; hair off face and neck and securely fastened, bun preferred; ballet shoes.
Boys are to wear a white t-shirt with black jazz/yoga shorts or pants; white socks;
ballet shoes.
- Ballet C or above—Black leotard with pink or black tights; ballet skirt or alignment
belt allowed; ballet-specific warm-ups may be worn during barre only; hair off face
and neck and securely fastened, bun preferred; ballet shoes. Boys are to wear a white
t-shirt and black jazz/yoga shorts or pants; white socks; ballet shoes.
- Ballet/Tap Combination—Girls are to wear a solid color leotard with pink or black
tights; ballet skirt or alignment belt allowed; ballet-specific warm-ups may be worn
during barre only; jazz/yoga pants, sweat pants or shorts may be worn for the tap
portion of class; hair off face and neck and securely fastened, bun preferred; ballet
shoes and tap shoes. Boys are to wear a solid color t-shirt with black jazz/yoga
shorts or pants; socks; ballet shoes and tap shoes.
- Ballroom—Comfortable, casual clothing with dress shoes; no spiked heels; gym shoes
discouraged. No dirty shoes allowed. Attire must allow full range of motion.
- Bellydance—Dance attire of any kind; hip scarf; bare feet or socks.
- Gymnastics—Girls may wear a leotard, unitard or a close-fitting top and jazz/yoga
pants, sweat pants or shorts; no loose t-shirts allowed; hair off face and neck and
securely fastened, bare feet preferred; socks allowed. Boys are to wear a close-fitting
top and jazz/yoga pants, sweat pants or shorts; bare feet preferred; socks allowed.
- Hip Hop—Dance attire or comfortable, casual clothing allowed; jazz shoes or clean
gym shoes; dance sneakers preferred. Attire must allow full range of motion.
- Jazz—Leotard, camisole or close-fitting t-shirt and jazz pants, capris or shorts;
hair off face and neck and securely fastened; jazz shoes or jazz sneakers.
- Modern—Leotard, camisole or tight-fitting t-shirt and jazz pants, capris or shorts;
hair off face and neck and securely fastened; bare feet preferred; socks allowed.
- Preschool Dance—Girls may wear dance attire of any kind; hair off face and neck and
securely fastened; ballet shoes and tap shoes. Boys are to wear a close-fitting top
and jazz/yoga pants, sweat pants or shorts; ballet shoes and tap shoes.
- Tap—Dance attire or comfortable, casual clothing allowed; tap shoes. Attire must
allow full range of motion. Please regularly check that the screws on the bottom
of your tap shoes are not loose. Loose tap screws will damage the dance floor.
Specific class attire is as follows:
- No dirty or hard-soled shoes are allowed on the dance floor.
- Jewelry is highly discouraged. No dangling or distracting jewelry is allowed.
- In general, no street clothes or bulky garments allowed, however, street clothes
may be worn in tap, hip hop and ballroom classes if the student’s clothing does not
restrict his or her full range of movement.
